1st Meeting 2015/16

1st Meeting 2015/16

Last night saw the first meeting of the 2015/16 season and it was very pleasing to see such a good turn out of both new and old members.

There were 10 potential new members in the audience, this can be directly attributed to the very succesful exhibition which we held at the Atkins Gallery at the end of last month and the phenomenal press coverage we achieved thanks to John Smith. What’s even better is that in at least 2 cases Hinckley Times and Local Rock have followed the original article with a second one and the Leicester Mercury did a very nice two page spread showing several examples of our images.

The actual meeting was the MCPF Travelling Photopholio which is a selection of prints both monochrome and colour and DPI images from this years Photopholio competion. it was nice to see that Martin Godfrey once again had an image selected.

What was also pleasing to see were the number of images from both Roger and Judith Parry of Smethwick PS which bodes well for next week’s meeting when they come to give us a talk

This week is our annual exhibition and as it’s our 40th anniversary it was decided to hold it at The Atkins Gallery in Hinckley for a week rather that our previous 1/2 day Saturday Afternoon type. The Atkins gallery is a very good exhibition space and it was pleasing to see that we were well able to fill the area with a nice selection of good images from several members. It is also linked with the café espanol who provide a taste of Spanish cuisine a sample of which they provided as nibbles for tonight’s special viewing were it was good to see so many members both past, present and hopefully future.

Our thanks and thoughts go to John Smith (get well soon) for both organising the event and such a wide spread media coverage with articles appearing in the MCPF newsletter, Photography News, Leicester Mercury, Hinckley Times, The Local Rock and hopefully even an interview on BBC Radio Leicester. To Rebecca Wilbur and her team at the Atkins for all their help and the Café Espanol for a nice buffet. And finally to those members who were able to help set up on Monday morning and take down next week.

Exhibition at the Atkins Gallery

Exhibition at the Atkins Gallery

Arrangements are now in place for our annual exhibition, which is at the Atkins Gallery from 24th August.  Gary has prints from the Image of the Year and also from some of the external competitions.  We would ask all members to let us have approx 4 images each. In case we have too many please indicate your preference for showing.
Titles of your images other than already with Gary Wood:

Please email your titles to Ian Waite by Friday 14th August at the latest.  This will enable Ian to produce all labels in the same style.
Where to take your prints

1.  On Saturday 15th August, Ian will be at the Atkins Gallery from 11.00 am until 12.00 noon
2.  On Wednesday 19th August, either Gary Wood or Daniel Wood will be at the George Ward Centre
from approx 6.45 pm until 7.00 pm.  If you wish to use the GWC please email Gary – garywood40@gmail.com as he will only be there if he knows he is required to do so
Exhibition Setup:  Several committee members will be at the Atkins Gallery from 9.30 am on Monday 24th August to set up the exhibition.  We will be arranging images on gallery panels  provided so this will be a long process to look good.  Also there are other exhibits such as cameras from John Langham etc.  Therefore anyone available to give a hand would be much appreciated.
Club Evening Wednesday 26th August.  We have taken advantage of this offer from the Atkins Building to treat this as an additional event.  We will start at 7.30 pm and Cafe Espanol will also be open for food and drinks both alcoholic and tea coffee etc.  We plan to have a session for still life and would encourage you to bring your cameras.  The publicity for the event will also invite members of the public as we try to promote the club.  Anyone is invited to bring their camera to ask advice etc from our members.
Publicity  The exhibition has already appeared in the Photography News   and MCPF  Journal.  I have received acknowledgment from the Hinckley Times and other media outlets will be contacted this week.
Please help in following the arrangements for your image titles and delivery of prints.  This is a big undertaking for this exhibition and we want to run as smoothly as possible
And don’t forget come along on Wednesday 26th, it is an additional event and FREE
